Painting Nature in Acrylics

Enjoy painting the breathtaking beauty of nature including flowers, plants, animals and landscapes from photo references, while learning various techniques of acrylic painting and good composition.  As students explore the rich patterns and details of nature, Barbie will demonstrate color mixing and how to use paints and additives on canvas, paper, wood panels and other supports. Beginners will be guided step by step. More advanced students may experiment to find their own painting style. All are welcome. Feel free to bring dinner, snacks or drinks.

Class Options:

For those of you who’d like to take Painting or Calligraphy in the comfort of your own surroundings, without the hassle of driving, hauling supplies, or waiting in crowded classes for individual instruction,

I have the Solution. I WILL COME TO YOU. ***A small fee may be added for locations more than 5 miles from my home.

Private Classes: (Ages 10 to 100, *An adult must be present for ages 10-18)

1 hour - $50, 1 + 1/2 hours- $75, 2 hours -$100

Semi-Private Classes:

2 hours – 2 people - $120 ($60 each), 3 people - $150 ($50 each), 4 -6 people ($40 each)

Online Classes or Critiques:

Video Chats with Students (past or present) through Facebook Messenger are Welcome – must be arranged ahead of time, and subject to my schedule

15 minutes - $10 – Critique or “How To” Questions

30 minutes - $20 – Mini Class with minimal instruction or lots of “How To” Questions

60 minutes - $30 – Online Class Session

One time Class/Parties of 7 or more start at $35 each depending on particular kind of class and if I do the purchasing of supplies. Contact me for more information.

All Class Times are subject to availability. An initial deposit by check or PayPal will be required in advance to hold your spot.

*A small additional fee may be added for travel distance and will be discussed upon enrollment.

Supplies:

A Supply list will be provided upon sign-up. All fees above do not include supplies.

Arrangements may be made for me to purchase supplies for an additional charge.

Classes Offered:

1. Watercolor or Acrylic Painting for Beginners and Intermediates

*I paint in a realistic style mainly using photographs of natural subjects such as flowers, landscapes, animals, and some people, although I don’t teach portrait painting. Students are encouraged to use their own photos so that they may paint the subject matter that interests them. Still Life Painting, Collage, Abstract or Plein Air Painting may also be done if there is an interest. Classes will also include learning the Elements of Design and Composition including Color Mixing, Value, Creating Texture, etc… And, how and what supplies to use to get the look you want.

2. Traditional Calligraphy

A Sheaffer Calligraphy Pen or a broad nib dip pen is used to create a traditional Italic Script

3. Modern Calligraphy

A Pointed Dip Pen or a pointed round brush is used to create popular modern script in ink or watercolor.
