Some people in Atlanta, Georgia know that I started out as a Paste-up Artist in a large printing company, and then went on to be an Illustrator for JCPenney until marriage took me to smaller towns with other opportunities – “Building Blocks” as I like to call them. These “Blocks” included being a Graphic Designer in Athens, Georgia, working for a Folk Art Company in Evansville, Indiana painting Decorative Wooden Items, working in a Gift Shop painting designs and personalizing Lucite Items in Spartanburg, SC, and on working on contract designing Sweatshirts and hand-painted items for Craft Books back in Atlanta. Inspired by working in an Art Gallery in Stone Mountain, GA, I decided to take Watercolor Painting. Soon after I began, I got a contract with a national print publisher who made prints of my Calligraphy and Hand-Painted Mats and sold them internationally. I worked in another gallery in Venice, Florida doing framing and Mat Design. Eventually, I wanted to do more Fine Art Paintings, so I began to enter Juried Shows. In Columbia, SC in 2006, I got my Member with Excellence Award in the SC Watercolor Society (now renamed SC Watermedia Society). Along the way, there were family changes, and as a single Mom I have worked many kinds of jobs including a present job as a Customer Service Rep for a Dry Cleaners where I’m inspired every day to do collage from invoices, and work on paintings and calligraphy in between customers. For the past 5 years, I have worked as an Adjunct Instructor for Midlands Technical College where I teach Painting and Calligraphy. Long Term Goals include creating my own Online Classes, teaching Painting Workshops, writing a Book and becoming proficient at writing and maintaining this Blog and my Website. Until then, continuing to Build My Life, One Painting at a Time, One Lesson at a Time, One Block at a Time.
